The Father of the Nation of UAE – HH Sheikh Zayed bin Nahyan – said in 1970 : “India and UAE’s relations go back some four millennia, and there are boundless possibilities going forward”. He was referring to trade with the Indus Valley civilization. PM Modi and Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan have drafted the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and committed both nations to it. What are the shared values? (a) Religious tolerance, (b) Building multicultural societies, (c) Rejection of religious extremism and terror, (d) Rejection of terror in all forms. Terror attacks in Kabul and Kandahar in January 2017 killed some UAE and Afghan nationals. Strongly condemned by the leaders. Defence relationships to be strengthened – including training, joint exercises, co-production of materials India is UAE’s biggest trade partner. UAE ranks third for India, after US and China. Indian entrepreneurs are present in a big scale in the UAE. Around 27% of UAE’s population of 90 lac (approx) is Indian! Rapid infrastructural development is the key to India’s progress, and some of UAE’s largest companies will be roped in to build highways, airports, logistics hubs and ports in India.

 Abu Dhabi’s planned city – Masdar – relies on solar energy and other renewable energy sources. Masdar is being constructed 17 km east-south-east of the city of Abu Dhabi. Masdar City hosts the HQ of International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). The UAE is made up of seven emirates – Abu Dhabi, Umm al-Quwain, Ajman, Dubai, Sharjah, Ras al-Khaimah and Fujairah. The UAE has no political parties, is an Islamic absolute monarchy, and the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority is estimated to be managing USD 800 billion in assets! India hopes to have investments in multiple fields in the future.
