On one hand, the US presidential ban order is being protested within, and regretted and reproached outside, an on the other hand it is an opportunity for various countries, particularly India, to take a look at their own policies on citizenships, visas and migrants. The vast number of Indian migrants to various parts of the world, who migrated to these countries for various reasons, have acquired citizenships of those adopted countries. But the reverse of it has not been the case for persons who apply for Indian citizenship. The situation in India about migrants from across the border is that of suspicion and threat. And there are good reasons for that. It is very difficult for foreign nationals coming to India on various grounds to obtain Indian citizenship.  If our own situation in this respect is so precarious, do we have the moral right to criticize what Trump is doing? We need to introspect. We need to improve our systems proactively. If what is true for foreign nationals applying for Indian visa or citizenships, why should the same be criticized if it is done by the US? Is it only because our own people working there, or wanting to go there, are in danger of losing the opportunity? It is time we take a relook at our own citizenship and visa policy and make suitable changes urgently and immediately.
