Despite good intentions, the push needed for ensuring environmental protection seems missing in recent times, in India.
Ecological conservation needs a renewed push

Environmental protection and conservation of wildlife is an important issue in the present day, which seems to have been neglected in the current Union Budget. Most environmental issues are interconnected and they cannot be considered in isolation. The budget however seems to have done exactly the same. Environment protection laws and regulations have flaws. Macro-level attention will not help. Environmental conservation needs to be consolidated with better allocations for alternative sources of energy, more stringent regulations on environmental pollution etc. The problem is not restricted only to the under-allocation for the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEFCC), but it is also about the under-utilization of the allocated funds, howsoever small, by the ministry. The under-utilization problem is more severe at the state/UT-level. The problems of disappearing wildlife, deteriorating ecological balance, increasing pollution etc need immediate attention. The economic and industrial growth strategy needs to be synchronized with environmental conservation, and it cannot be promoted at the cost of deterioration of environment. Scientific, sustained and intensive conservation measures need to be initiated for a healthier and cleaner environment. Watch video analyses on issues related to Environment and Ecology, here
