The arrival of Trump is reconfiguring world political dynamics. While the public at large knows only about Mr.Trump, there are other interesting personalities too. An example : Mr. Stephen K. Bannon has risen from being the executive chairman of a largely unknown conservative website, to become the second most powerful person in the world after the US President. Bannon is the Chief Strategist of the US President who managed Trump’s entire election campaign, attends the National Security Council meetings and is in a position to influence critical policy decisions. It was because of his strategies that Trump, who was written off as a loud-mouthed businessman and a person with no political experience, evolved as a Conservative insurgent with ethno-nationalist ideals and contempt for globalization.Bannon’s website Breitbart, turned into a platform for Alt-Right (Alternative Right) movement. Known for his exclusivist attitude towards other races, misogyny, political incorrectness and protectionist economic philosophy, critics allege Bannon has influenced Trump’s recent actions as President.  It seems he is on his way to “deconstruct” the American state! America of his imagination is a cultural nationalist entity with closed borders and protectionist policies that is involved in a clash of civilizations with Islam.According to him, globalization is threatening America’s traditional values and doing economic injustice to its workers. The anti-globalisation tirade has found its voice across the world, including in Europe.There are several parties in the West, like UKIP in Britain, AfD in Germany (Alternative for Germany) and Freedom Party in the Netherlands that share the same world view.Liberals worldwide, and in India, are alarmed at the pushback by the Conservative camps. Globalisation itself seems in peril, at least in the short run. What better example of it that the urgent push by President Xi Jinping of China at the WEF, Davos where he praised “free trade” and “globalization”!
