Modi’s UP wave and after

[ ##thumbs-o-up##  Share Testimonial here - make our day!]

In the Feb-March 2017 Assembly Elections in 5 states, of the total 690 seats being contested, UP alone accounted for 403 seats, of which the BJP won 312! We have analysed the entire election results in our Bodhi here! Historically, even those who win a majority of Lok Sabha seats from UP, often fare badly in Assembly Elections. An Example : Rajiv Gandhi the unstoppable in 1984 has to face a strong Lok Dal in 1985 which bagged 84 assembly seats.

Modi has smashed all historical precedents. He won the Lok Sabha, and then the Vidhan Sabha. How? Of the many factors, the SP and the BSP simply collapsing did help! This happened despite all negative mentioned by opponents – no CM face, rebels from BJP, dal-badlus fielded by the BJP etc. Nothing mattered. Nothing at all, in front of Modi’s energy and charisma. What Rahul Gandhi said actually came true, in a horrible nightmare for the Congress, though. Indeed it was only Modi all the way, and all the way to victory! The reporters found during their tour that people believe every word of Narendra Modi “blindly” – his words in the “Mann ki baat”, in the speeches, in tours abroad etc. His demonetization has worked miraculously in his favour, not against him. It made the poor jump with joy, seeing the rich so uncomfortable. For the first time in independent India perhaps they experienced the joy. [speaks volumes about “Garibi Hatao” kind of programmes] Modi’s image – Good, Clean of Heart, Messiah of the Poor (nek, saaf dil, garibon ka masiha). This is the worst nightmare for the redistributive doles politics of Congress or SP or BSP or whichever Party one can think of. The foreign trips are viewed very favourably as having brought respect for India. Read about Modi Doctrine here

SP and Akhilesh Yadav’s overtly pro-Muslim partisanship had rankled many over the years – the BJP used it wonderfully to its own advantage. Many people actually appreciated the BJP for not fielding a single Muslim candidate (the BSP did the reverse – fielded far too many). Media experts are criticizing both for reverse-polarisation and polarization, respectively! The victory holds many lessons for the future. Development must happen, or disenchantment will be severe.
